Tracheostomy Speaking Valve

The Trachie-Voice low profile Tracheostomy Speaking Valve fits securely to a 15mm connector tracheostomy tube.

The device has a one way mechanism that opens when the patient breathes in, allowing air into the airway via the tracheostomy. The valve closes on expiration allowing air to follow the normal route of expiration through the mouth and nose, instead of the tracheostomy, permitting speech.

Being 'hands free' allows voicing to take place without the need for finger occlusion, so reducing possible infection and hygiene concerns.

Intended Purpose

The Tracheostomy Speaking Valve is developed to help with the treatment of Tracheostomy patients. The valve provides patients the ability for voicing and to communicate more effectively. Speaking valves should never be used with the tracheostomy tube cuff inflated as this can lead to asphyxiation and respiratory arrest.

Safety information

The tracheostomy cuff must always be deflated when in use

If the flexible valve does not open during inspiration or close during expiration, remove the Speaking Valve immediately.

The initial fitting of the Speaking Valve should be carried out by a trained clinician or caregiver and observed for a period to ensure adequate respiration

The device is not for use with patients who are being mechanically ventilated

Discard the device should there be signs of deterioration
